Old Friends and New Faces

With the annual NRB convention behind us, we're anticipating a very busy spring. It was good to see long-time friends and to make new friends. We're in the middle of an office move and new projects are ahead. We're still kicking around the idea of an H|S podcast from the Hangar. Basically, we like to hear ourselves talk and we figured that we'd share our "good times" with you.

Nouveau Radieau

Recently, "Wired" magazine announced "the death of radio... as we know it." While radio is far from dead, emerging ways to distribute content does make it interesting. One recent entry to the distribution-to-the-masses contest is audio blogging, also known as, Podcasting. Be on the lookout for audio offerings from Holland|Simpson. That's right, Jon and David will revisit their radio roots soon!

The Oscars

While Oscar enjoyed himself, I enjoyed watching the film, "Independence Day." There were two things about the experience that I especially enjoyed: Firstly, if I have to experience fiction (the world of Oscar, afterall), then give me a film about the solid defeat of an enemy bent on destroying our way of life. And secondly, if I have to choose a place to enjoy a good fictional work (such as a movie), then give me Fox... the most hated network of the media elite (due, I'm sure, to their explosive ratings). A fine night afterall! OK, this entry should have been on our Blog, but in this case... we wanted a home-page advantage!

Lot's of Stations

According to Radio World, there are now 2,533 educational FMs, and 3,890 FM translators/boosters. AM stations increased to a new total of 4,774, while the commercial FM's now total 6,218. So, we now have 13,525 U.S. broadcast radio stations (not counting boosters/translators). And they said that satellite would kill radio!

Into the New Year

As we all welcome 2005, we face one of the world's worst natural disasters in recent history. Indeed, it's sobering to realize that we cannot control our environment (no matter what the "experts" say). In the face of the incomprehensible devastation half-way around the world, may we take some focused time to pray... and provide critically needed resources. Organizations like The Red Cross and Doctors Without Borders are actively moving into the disaster zone to help, and there are many, many others. Do not become distracted by political posturing or religious differences. Instead, allow youself to be moved by the Holy Spirit of our Living God though His Son, Jesus Christ. May God receive those taken by this monstrous event... and may He bless the hundreds of thousands left behind this killer earthquake and its resulting tsunami. And, as you pray for them, take just a moment to thank God for living in the USA.
