February 22, 2005Dr. Gene Scott Has Passed AwayI remember the first time I ever encountered one of Gene Scott's television broadcasts. I had heard stories about the stogie-smokie, blue-streak-swearing television preacher but I was pretty sure they were exaggerations. I was wrong. Holder of a Ph.D. from Stanford, "unorthodox" didn't do him justice. He was as comfortable holding forth about UFO's and lost civilizations as was about sanctification and redemption. I will confess that listening to him was an occasional guilty pleasure of mine. When in the mood for something thought-provokingly wacky, I would pop over to www.genescott.com and stream a little of a message with a title like, "I Believe In UFO's: God's Warning to Hardened Hearts via Calvin." Now that's something you don't hear every Sunday. Posted by David at February 22, 2005 08:38 PMComments
david - i hate to admit this, but i also listened to him on occassion. i was thinking of trying the cigar thing, but chickened out. ;) Posted by: scott hodge at February 23, 2005 06:51 AMI was sorry to hear of the passing of Dr. Gene Scott. When I first saw him on t. v. several years ago I thoght he was a nut. I did not understand what he was trying to do nor was I very interested in what he was saying. Lately I have been watching his lectures at Stanford and found them fascinating. His command of several of the Biblical languages and the various meanings of verses was very interesting. He was a child of God, a scholar and he loved his Lord. i should like to respond to the comment by "Charle". i worked for Dr. Gene Scott for 3 years. i was around him most hours in any given day(or nite) Dr. Scott indeed believed the teachings he exposed us to! where did charle' get that stupid idea anyway? i first heard Doc when i was 15yrs old. i went into the Air Force and after i got out Doc gave me the best(and hardest) job i ever will have. i saw the pain(spiritual pain) he went thru privatly in his struggle to rightly divide the Word Of Truth publicly. Dr. Scott 100% believed in what he taught the world. What the hell does charle' know about what Doc did or did not believe? James, Amazingly in your haste to judge, it appears you failed to read what was actually written. Over the many years Doc exposed [key word exposed] the student to things that were intended to make said student think and weigh using configuration to see the truth. Exposed to something even "ad falsum" is only part of a teaching designed to reveal the truth of the TEACHING. Doc addressed that often. You may have been in absentia.
